The Bakhtiari tribe (the name having derived from the ruling family of the same name) live in southeastern Iran near Fars Province. Their way of life has changed throughout the decades, though some still lead a nomadic life. Prior to Iranian oil being nationalized, the Bakhtiari were a powerful tribe from oil wells on their land. Interference from the fall of the Shah’s reign also affected their families & way of life. Carpet weaving is one long-standing tradition for the women of the tribe. This carpet was likely not woven for their own use, but to be sold & utilized by others.

This versatile carpet (as opposed to rug, due to its size) is a hefty work of art that can be easily utilized with any interior style. The dominant colors are pomegranate, garnet, navy, emerald green, pale pink, & natural wool. A fantastic carpet.
